Initially I wanted to go see the sunrise at Angkor Wat by bike, but the bike was locked in the morning so I got a TukTuk (little taxi car). Angkor Wat was quite crowded, which is not surprising because the main tours advertise sunrise @Angkor Wat. It was still beautiful and I am happy I went. Very happy actually that I didn’t go by bike bc the driver offered to take me to some other temples and I was still very tired.

The first temple after the sunrise was Ta Keo. It was 7:30am, it just opened and I was very lucky because I had it completely to myself for probably 1 hour. It was massive and very high, above the already very high trees surrounding the temple. The sunlight was making it feel even more magical.

Back to the hostel and after 3-4 more temples, it was maybe 10:30am and I couldn‘t wait to have some breakfast. My roommate offered me some french blue cheese she got from the french bakery. She told me that there are many french products that became part of the common food here, especially croissants, because of the french colonization.

In the afternoon I decided to go to the temple Pre Rup by bike. It‘s a bit further away ( not far out, but further by bike than Angkor Wat and the closest 4 temples, I think maybe 9km). ANYWAY. I loved the cycling. There is a beautiful and very well done cycling path next to the big road through the forest. On my way I passed a big lake (belonging to a temple, it‘s not a lake, it‘s a square and man-made, don‘t ask me for the proper name for it) and had incredibly amazing food at a café. It just said Cambodian fish in coconut milk on the menu and I was a bit skeptical but it turned out to be this delicious light soup with coconut and lemongrass and the fish wasn’t like a whole grilled fish as I imagined. It was more like small filet pieces, very mild…reminding me of cod. So so good. And I got tea for free too!

I reached Pre Rup before sunset and the LIGHT. I cannot describe it. The sunsets in general are amazing here, every single one. The light is golden and the sky turns into a beautiful pink-orange. Tomorrow morning I am going to see the sunrise again, but from a different temple. Excited for it! Good night!
