I contemplated for a while if I really needed a SIM card for 2 days but yes, it was worth it. Especially in a big city. And for directions. Sure, it‘s possible without, but it‘s way more convenient to not be dependent on trying to find WIFI. And I believe it helps to be safe as a solo traveler to always have the option to get a grab (taxi) from anywhere.

I was very happy to be able to check in early. I arrived at 4am at the bus station and it took a while to get to the hostel. The hostel wasn‘t really a hosel. It was a flat with 3 bunk beds in a big white appartment complex with over 40 floors. Cannot complain for 8€/night. Especially since it gave access to an insane infinity pool with the most perfect skyline view of Kuala Lumpur.

After a morning swim in the pool, I couldn‘t sleep, so I took my camera and went into town. I was on a mission to repair my sandals. I found a place, but they wanted 70€ for it bc they would be using „real Italian leather“. And they‘d need 2-3 weeks. So I packed my shoes and will try my luck in Vietnam.

My highlight was going to the hair saloon, I always find it hard to pick one that knows how to cut curls well. And this heat makes it nearly unbearable to have long hair. The hair artist cut my hair so effortlessly and in such a precise way, I could only observe and admire the skill. It‘s like when someone paints a watercolor painting but only uses 3 brush strokes and it looks like a realistic landscape.

Today I went to the famous Batu caves: rainbow stairs with hundreds of steps and one of the world’s largest statues (golden Murugan). It was quite impressive. And there were monkeys everywhere.

All in all, Kuala Lumpur is a very modern large city and I it’s really easy to get lost in the gigantic shopping malls. Tomorrow I am going to Vietnam meeting up with my brothers. We will be traveling from Ho-Chin-Minh City to Hanoi within 10 days. I am very looking forward to it.
